Seven items your OWC site layout must show
A useful drawing starts with an as-built site plan and a model-specific equipment outline. Label access widths and door clearances in addition to the machine body dimensions.
- Actual machine length, width and height from the supplier drawing, plus doors and open panels.
- Sorting table, covered waste-bin holding point and rejected-material exit route.
- Operator working space, shredder loading height and routine cleaning access.
- Incoming power point and isolator position away from possible water splash.
- Floor drainage and cleaning water pathway without discharging untreated leachate unlawfully.
- Ventilation route, safe clearance from combustibles and service accessibility.
- Covered curing area, compost handling and lawful reject storage.
Utility schedule for an OWC room
Do not copy a generic electrical kW estimate from another size: connected load is the sum of installed electrical equipment ratings, not necessarily metered energy use. Ask for a machine-specific load schedule and installation sign-off.
| Item | Drawing/quotation information |
|---|---|
| Incoming supply | Voltage, phase, frequency, MCB/isolator, earthing and cable route |
| Electrical loading | Connected kW, heating duty, motor starting and protective devices |
| Civil base | Equipment operating mass, loading point and floor condition |
| Water and drainage | Cleaning water point, drain route and spill containment |
| Ventilation | Air movement, heat and odour escape under actual site conditions |
| Output handling | Separate sheltered curing and product storage area |
Layout example: 100 kg/day institutional kitchen
Treat an illustrative 100 kg/day flow as a sequence rather than a fixed rectangular floor dimension: Receiving → segregation → shredding/loading → machine → discharge → curing. The supplier and civil engineer should agree the actual footprint, access requirements and handling route before fabrication or installation.
- Keep the clean material handling route distinct from mixed-waste and reject movement.
- Allow operator access to control panel, guards and moving parts only with suitable isolation.
- For basement sites, assess ventilation, fire safety, drainage and routes to the loading dock.
No universal 10 × 10 ft or 12 × 10 ft drawing is adequate for every model. Confirm dimensions, safety clearances and structural requirements on site.
What should be in the installation drawing package?
A vendor-ready set usually includes a dimensioned plan view, elevation or loading-height sketch, utility connection schedule, civil-interface notes and commissioning responsibility matrix. Use revision numbers so the factory, site electrician and civil contractor install the same approved arrangement.
- Mark the area available for unloading and final installation.
- Identify who supplies civil platform, power termination, cables and earthing.
- Record machine commissioning tests and operator handover documents.
Installation checklist before ordering
Send the measured layout, site photographs and segregation plan with your technical quotation request. If site access is tight, check machine transport dimensions as well as assembled dimensions.
Electrical protection, earthing and structural load checks must be confirmed by qualified site professionals; this is a buyer-planning guide, not a wiring or structural design certification.
When the question becomes model-specific
This guide stays general. For exact figures on a particular machine, these published pages from the COMPOSTO range are the reference.
