Bulk Waste Generator OWC Planning Guide

Short answer

For a bulk-waste site, start with the current applicable legal definition and local directions, then build the engineering plan around segregation, measured organic load, approved processing route, machine capacity, operator responsibility, curing and records.

Verify the current rule position first

Definitions, thresholds and local implementation can change. Confirm the current central, state and municipal requirements that apply to your property. This page is an engineering planning aid, not legal advice.

Always verify current BWG obligations with the competent authority / compliance team.

Map every waste stream

A compliant-looking machine does not replace a waste-management plan. Show how biodegradable, recyclable, sanitary, hazardous/regulated and reject streams are segregated and routed.

Measure the organic stream that will actually be processed

Use real weights from representative operating days. Exclude waste that will legally or operationally follow another route. Record peaks and seasonal variation.

Document the on-site workflow

The plan should show collection point, OWC loading, operator, power/housekeeping, discharge, curing, final use or authorised handover, and the backup route during maintenance.

Keep evidence

Simple records—daily load, downtime, maintenance, training and output handling—make the system easier to manage and review. The exact records required for compliance should be confirmed against current local rules.

Keep engineering evidence beside the compliance file

A well-run on-site system is easier to demonstrate when daily operations leave a simple evidence trail. Keep the waste-stream map, representative weighing records, operator responsibility, maintenance history, curing/output handling and backup arrangement together. The legal documents required by the competent authority may differ, but the engineering record still helps show how the chosen process is actually being operated.

  • Keep rule verification dated and source-based.
  • Retain representative weighing records.
  • Document training, downtime and maintenance.
  • Record how output and off-spec material are handled.

Keep compliance documents current and maintain a clear operating record for the site.

When the question becomes model-specific

This guide stays general. For exact figures on a particular machine, these published pages from the COMPOSTO range are the reference.
